Sultan Iskandar Muda brought the Aceh Sultanate to the peak of its political and military glory. Under his rule, territory expanded to the coasts of Sumatra and the Malay peninsula.
He drafted the Qanun Meukuta Alam constitutional code and professionalized pepper trade. Iskandar Muda upheld Sharia law strictly, famously executing his own son, Meurah Pupok, when found guilty of a crime to prove that no one is above the law.
