This warrior couple united the noble forces of the VI Mukim region and the west coast of Aceh. Cut Nyak Dhien agreed to marry Teuku Umar on the condition that she be allowed to fight directly on the frontlines.
Teuku Umar was famous for his strategy of feigning loyalty to the Dutch in 1893, deflecting back in 1896 after seizing thousands of modern weapons and ammunition. After Umar fell in Meulaboh in 1899, Cut Nyak Dhien assumed full command in the deep jungles until her eventual capture due to failing health.
