In 1948, Yogyakarta was under Dutch military blockade. President Soekarno appealed for financial support from Aceh, the only territory free from Dutch occupation.
In a short time, Acehnese merchants and citizens donated over 20 kg of gold to buy a Douglas C-47 Dakota from Singapore. Named Seulawah RI-001 (Mountain of Gold), the aircraft broke the blockade and laid the foundation for Indonesian Airways.
