Aceh Fishery Potential: From Lampulo Port to Global Markets

As a province bordering the Indian Ocean and the Strait of Malacca, Aceh is blessed with exceptionally abundant marine capture fishery resources. The epicenter of the local modern fishing industry is the Lampulo Ocean Fishing Port (PPS) in Banda Aceh. As one of the largest ocean fishing ports on the west coast of Sumatra, Lampulo serves as the hub for landing, auctioning, and processing marine catches, including premium commodities like yellowfin tuna, skipjack tuna, mackerel, octopus, and lobsters.

Aceh's marine capture fishery potential is estimated at hundreds of thousands of tons annually, though its utilization is being continuously optimized through vessel mechanization and cold chain system modernization. The deep-sea yellowfin tuna from the Indian Ocean landed at Lampulo possesses world-class *sashimi grade* export quality. This makes Acehnese fisheries highly sought after in international markets, with routine exports to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and several European Union countries.

The development of downstream fishery industries at Lampulo is continuously encouraged through the construction of cold storage facilities, canning factories, and fish feed processing plants. These efforts aim to add value to local commodities, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve the livelihood of traditional Acehnese fishermen through stable export prices.
