Laut Tawar Lake
Lake Laut Tawar is a vast volcanic lake located in the Gayo Highlands of Central Aceh. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,200 meters above sea level, the lake offers cool, clean, and refreshing mountain air.
The calm waters, surrounded by lush green hills, make it an ideal spot for camping, cycling, or boating. The lake is also home to the Depik fish, a savory endemic freshwater species prized in local Gayo cuisine.
Around the lake, visitors can explore fertile Gayo coffee plantations and traditional Gayo villages. In the morning, a thin mist often blankets the water, creating a tranquil atmosphere and highly photogenic vistas.
Tourism development around Lake Laut Tawar is thriving, featuring lakeside cafes, scenic photo piers, and glamping options. Access roads from Takengon city are fully paved, providing a scenic drive for travelers.
