Baiturrahman Grand Mosque
Baiturrahman Grand Mosque is the spiritual and cultural heart of Aceh, located in the center of Banda Aceh. Built during the Aceh Sultanate, it has witnessed historical events, including being burned by the Dutch and miraculously surviving the 2004 tsunami.
The mosque's architecture is grand, blending Mughal Indian styles with classical Islamic design. It features seven large black domes, eight tall minarets, and a vast courtyard adorned with massive electric umbrellas reminiscent of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina.
As a historic center of Islamic learning in Southeast Asia, the mosque stands as a symbol of pride for the Acehnese. Its floors are tiled with premium Italian marble, providing a cool and peaceful atmosphere for worshipers and visitors alike.
Visitor facilities are comprehensive, featuring manicured gardens, underground ablution chambers, and religious tour guides. The mosque is surrounded by traditional culinary stalls and souvenir markets.
