Conservation Response Unit (CRU) Sampoiniet in Aceh Jaya is a Sumatran elephant conservation center bordering dense forests. Here, trained elephants help mitigate conflicts between wild elephant herds and local communities.
Visitors can interact directly with the gentle Sumatran elephants, help bathe them in clear forest rivers, feed them fruits, or go on elephant rides along the rainforest borders.
CRU Sampoiniet offers educational ecotourism centered on wildlife conservation. The air around the camp is clean and fresh, surrounded by the sounds of rushing rivers and forest birds chirping.
Facilities at CRU Sampoiniet include elephant monitoring stations, riverside camping grounds, restrooms, and basic lodges for volunteers. It is accessible by car from the western highway inland.
