Lampuuk Beach, located on the shores of the Indian Ocean a few kilometers south of Banda Aceh, is one of the most beautiful white-sand beaches on the western coast of Sumatra. Featuring a 4-kilometer crescent shoreline with soft, powdery white sand, the beach is framed by majestic green karst cliffs. Lampuuk holds a touching history of recovery; it was completely devastated by the 2004 tsunami, but has risen to become Aceh's premier coastal tourist destination.
Lampuuk Beach offers diverse attractions for all kinds of travelers. For water sports enthusiasts, the northern section offers consistent beach breaks, making it an ideal arena for both novice and experienced surfers. For families, the wide sandy shoreline is perfect for building sandcastles, riding banana boats, or sunbathing. An iconic activity in Lampuuk is enjoying fresh grilled fish at the wooden stilt restaurants lining the shore, served hot with spicy soy sauce dip while waiting for the romantic sunset framed by the ocean cliffs.
The Lampuuk area also hosts a sea turtle conservation and hatching center. Here, visitors can learn about coastal preservation efforts and participate in releasing baby sea turtles (*tukik*) into the open ocean, an educational and moving experience that connects visitors directly to marine conservation.
