The traditional Krong Bade wooden stilt house, engineered to be earthquake-resistant without iron nails, using wooden pegs and palm-fiber bindings. Oriented East-to-West facing the Qibla, with a low doorway (120-150 cm) enforcing the guest's respect ('saleum horeumat'), it features the front veranda (Seuramoe-ukeu) for men, the rear domestic veranda (Seuramoe-likoot) for women, and the split-level master bedroom (Rumoh Inong). At the stairs, a 'glok ie' (water jar) purifies the guests' feet and souls.
