Songket Aceh is a luxurious traditional woven fabric hand-crafted using traditional wooden looms (*Gedogan*). Woven with a combination of fine cotton thread, natural silk, and gold and silver metallic threads, Songket Aceh presents a glittering and elegant appearance. Producing a single piece of songket requires weeks to months, demanding high precision to assemble the intricate decorative motifs.
Each piece of Songket Aceh is decorated with organic geometric motifs carrying deep philosophical meanings about local wisdom, nature, and the Acehnese way of life. Iconic motifs include the *Pinto Aceh* (Aceh Gate)—inspired by the gate of the Gunongan monument, symbolizing openness and hospitality—the *Bungong Jeumpa* (Jeumpa Flower), representing local natural beauty, and the *Pucok Rebung* (Bamboo Shoot), symbolizing a determination to grow and be useful to society.
Historically, songket was exclusive attire for the nobility of the Aceh Sultanate during official royal ceremonies.
